It’s World Mental Health Day! Read on to see how we connect to this cause, foster wellbeing, and scents to help you relax.

According to MHA, 1 in 5 Americans lives with a mental health condition.

Mental Health America (MHA)

Since 1949, they have recognized May as Mental Health Awareness Month, driving the wave of support for this cause and providing resources, tools, and screenings to those in need.

The theme of the 2022 Mental Health Day is making “mental health for all a global priority.” A lot of us can relate to this theme as our physical, emotional and especially mental health has been tested over the past two years.

Throughout the pandemic, there was a big boost in the candle industry. This is of course due to the increased amount of time at home, but also to the greater need to feel comforted, safe, & less stressed. We understand that candles are no “cure” for much bigger & more complex factors at hand, but there is a significant connection to the overarching topic of what this year’s theme is all about.

With the toll of the pandemic’s additional stress, isolation, and constant unknowns on our wellbeing, the goal of #WorldMentalHealthDay is to take fundamental steps to improve our mental health

Remember that everyone has mental health and everyone can work on their overall well-being: food, exercise, relationships, sleep, coping skills, routines, etc.

In this post, we’re going to talk about how your space can impact your mental wellness + ways to reduce stress, improve focus, and how candles play a role (of course!)

Zen Spaces: How My Environment Shapes My Mind

One of the fundamental purposes behind our candle subscriptions is relaxation and aiding in the creation of happier spaces for your home.

The physical environment of your home and workspace plays a role in your stress levels and state of your mental health.

Declutter your space, declutter your mind.

By eliminating the clutter of your physical space, you’re making mental space for clarity and focus. This will also make it easier to maintain a cleaning routine – another major source of stress for so many.

Sort it, make it shine, and sustain it.

Create a zen space.

Focus on creating a space that makes you feel happy & relaxed. Add a plant, a pop of color, a scented candle, etc. Rearrange your space for an exciting change.

It’s all about making small changes that feel exciting & refreshing. Plus, putting your mind to fun & productive projects is a great way to boost mental health!

How Candles Can Improve Wellbeing

Candles are a staple in home decor not only for their scent but also for their ambiance and mesmerizing glow. The act of burning a candle actually helps our brains to process how we feel mentally, making it an essential part of meditation, self-care, and relaxation.

When you smell a candle, you activate a part of the brain called the limbic system that’s responsible for your memory, mood and emotions.
